LETTER FROM THE EDITOR - VOL. 29
KCP Monthly - October 2026
By Eun Byoul Oh
안녕하세요? 반갑습니다!
Thank you all for coming to the Korea Fest 2026!
I want to say a special greeting for our incoming session students, and those who joined our newsletter readership through Korea Fest! We welcome all of you into our KCP community. We want to learn and grow with you all, and bond over Korean language and culture!
Also, this is the first newsletter issue under the new name of Korean Culture Project! So we extend greetings to our community members who have known us as Korean Culture Center NYC.
As you may have read from our rebranding email, we are the same independent nonprofit organization that has been serving the community since 2007, and we will continue to fulfill the same mission that we have been carrying on.
Korea has been ever expanding and evolving throughout its history, and there is no doubt that it will continue to do so in the future. With continuing global attention on Korea, the project of Korea’s continuing evolution is no longer just being watched by and participated in by Koreans, but by those who love Korean culture as well.
For that reason, Korean Culture Project will be a collaborative project that our community will continue to work on together. KCP Monthly will continue to honor Korea’s past through our This Month In History articles, share commentaries on current events of Korea, and also share personal stories of our community members and friends.
In this month’s KCP Monthly, we bring you Josh’s personal essay from Korea as he celebrates Chuseok with his Korean family. This Month In History brings you Korea’s ancient National Foundation Day history and its myths. There is a special report prepared by Justine on Korea Fest 2026 and our K-Drama Round Up is filled with exciting October dramas!
The October Dosan Hakdang Book Club is reading Our Twisted Hero by Lee Mun Yeol, to reflect on Korea’s tumultuous history of democracy. Our Twisted Hero is a classic political allegory that is taught in schools in Korea. We welcome everyone to join the talk as we discuss Korea’s past and the future. Please RSVP here.
Lastly, I want to thank everyone for volunteering at Korea Fest and coming to meet in person! 감사합니다.
With gratitude,
Eun Byoul Oh
